Lois Ramunni is an innovative mosaic artist from Connecticut. Her artistic vision has been deeply influenced by her travels to Morocco, Italy, Argentina, Brazil and Japan and the twenty-two years she spent surrounded by the beauty of Coral Gables, Florida. Her love of mosaics began in Tuscany, Italy at the studio of a classical mosaic artist, and continued to grow as she explored various mosaic styles, including Antoni Gaudi’s broken tile mosaics.
The inspiration for Lois’ evocative artwork springs from her desire to honor the beauty of cultural diversity, a sense of social justice, an appreciation of everyday moments, or just the elegance of a broken piece of pottery. Her art is characterized by its dimensional quality, textures and the harmony between vivid colors, shimmering glass and natural stone.
An avid art collector, Enrique Ziadie states, “Lois’ work, with its lush, vibrant colours and beautiful exotic forms, always brings to mind the work of Klimt, especially its power of healing through colour.”
She has exhibited her work at numerous juried art shows and group exhibitions, including Mobelform Gallery in the Design Center of the Americas (DCOTA) in Dania Beach, FL. Working with Florida interior designers, her distinctive artwork was displayed in the lobby of the Surfcomber Hotel in South Beach, in Kiaora in Coconut Grove, and the Schrager Estate in Boca Raton. Private collections and public commissions include the Carretero Private Collection in Micanopy, FL and Valencia, Spain, as well as St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Coral Gables.
Lois has been honored with five prestigious Art in State Buildings Awards. Her public art projects include “Community” at the Miami Dade Department of Health in West Perrine, FL; “Le Voyage Precaire” in Little Haiti; “Hope” at Florida International University; and “Refugees” and “Family Tree” at Florida A&M University.
